Whitby Goth Weekend

Since 1994 the Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby has played host to the Whitby Goth Weekend. The town’s Gothic Abbey was an inspiration for the Victorian novelist, Bram Stoker, to write Count Dracula in 1897 following a visit to Whitby. The Goth Weekend was originally held once a year on the closest weekend to Halloween, but in more recent years, the Whitby Goth Weekend has been held twice a year, with the additional event being held on a weekend in late April.

Not all attendees of the event are part of the Gothic music subculture; some just come to dress up in Gothic and other Victorian attire and enjoy walking around the historic cobbled streets of Whitby, including the steps leading up to St Mary’s Church and the Abbey on the town’s east cliff.
